Album Artwork Complete!

My album artwork is hot off the presses and I would like to take this opportunity to spotlight the graphic artist who created it.  Her name is Helene Deroubaix, she lives in Roubaix, France, and has two adorable little babies.  We have been in dialogue this past week and Helene sent me multiple versions of the artwork before we decided on this one.  Here are two previous iterations:

Ultimately we decided to go with the simplest design, so it will pop as an iTunes icon.

Helene originally came to my attention when she volunteered this lovely, dreamy version of my wedding photo:

She also designed this poster for my CMJ show:

My husband took this photo, as an homage to the famous Brigitte Bardot image:

Here are a few of my favorite of her mixed media works:

These remind me of Michal Negrin, the color palette, and the combination of photographs with sumptuous illustration:

She has a knack for bringing lyrics or snatches of poetry to life, which makes her the perfect artist to bring music into the visual realm.

And her work has a vintage feel to it, but it's also fresh, and new:

And her self portraits are at once haunting:

Self-castigating:

and joyous:

I think you will agree, she has just the right amount of macabre sensibility for an album about memento mori:

You can check out her website, and "like" her facebook page.

  4. Correction: The photo of the girl wrapped in bandages is not a self-portrait, but Evyn, a model.
